Who we are
Lemo Financial Services Limited is a financial technology company registered in Ghana, registration number CS227571025, with its registered address at The Anmut Building, Amrahia, Accra. This policy explains what we do with personal information when you use Lebe, visit this website or contact us.
We are the data controller for this information under the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), and we are certified by the Data Protection Commission, Ghana.
What we collect
When you use Lebe we collect the phone number you message us from, the content of the messages you send us, and the details needed to carry out what you ask, such as the account you want to pay from and the bill or number you want to pay.
When a payment is made we keep a record of it, including the amount, the accounts involved, the time, and the reference. We keep these records so that we can show you what happened, resolve any problem you raise, and meet our obligations.
To verify who you are, which the law requires before we move money for you, we ask for your Ghana Card number and a photo of your face. We check them against the records of the National Identification Authority through a licensed identity verification partner, and we keep your card number, your photo, the name the check returns and the result. We also compare that name with the name on the mobile money wallet you use, so that payments are made by the person who owns the account.
If you send Lebe a voice note or a photo, such as a picture of a merchant's payment sign or a bill, we process it to understand what you are asking for, in the same way as a typed message.
When you pay someone, we may look up the name registered to the number or account you entered, so that you can check it before you confirm.
If you email us we keep your message and your address so that we can reply and follow up.
Why we use it
We use your information to verify your identity, to carry out the instructions you give, to show you your own records, to answer your questions, to investigate failed or disputed payments, to detect and prevent fraud and abuse, and to improve how the service works.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to advertise other companies to you.
Our reasons for using it
We use your information because it is necessary to provide the service you asked for, because the law requires us to verify who our customers are and to keep certain records, and because we have a legitimate interest in keeping the service safe and working well, for example by preventing fraud.
Where we rely on your consent, we ask for it clearly, and you can withdraw it at any time without affecting anything done before.
Information outside Ghana
Some of our service providers store or process information outside Ghana. Where they do, we take the steps the Data Protection Act requires so that your information stays protected to the same standard.
How long we keep it
We keep identity verification records and transaction records for as long as financial and anti money laundering law requires, and other information for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected. When information is no longer needed we delete it or render it anonymous.
How we protect it
Access to personal information is restricted to the people who need it to do their work. Information is encrypted in transit, credentials are held in a managed secrets store rather than in our code, and access to production systems is logged.
No system is completely secure. If a breach affects your information in a way that presents a real risk to you, we will tell you.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, and ask us to delete it where we are not required to keep it. You can also object to particular uses of it.
If you are not satisfied with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission, Ghana.
To make any of these requests, email info@lemofinance.com. We will confirm who you are before acting, and respond within the time the law requires.
